Whose voice is this?
Fragment of the myth
1749. A chapel, somewhere between Rome and Versailles.
A nine-year-old child, Angelo, has a voice God should not have left to a child.
The chapel master and a patroness decide that this voice must never disappear.
To preserve it, they take from him something he will never get back.
Angelo sings for thirty years. Chapels, courts, salons. He never once sang for someone he had chosen.
He owns one thing only: a notebook of six airs, copied in his own hand.
In the margin of each air, a rose in ink. Five black. The sixth in gold leaf.
He dies in 1791. The notebook disappears.
2026. After a concert, a woman who says her name is Clara hands the notebook to a man.
He opens it. He already knows the six airs. He never learned them.
This time, the man who carries the voice can choose.
